Tip - eBay Motors ScamThis month's tip could be called our most embarrassing muscle car buying moment. You may find it strange that we share this story, especially since you'll see in the article below that we recommend eBay as one answer to the where to buy muscle cars online question. But this experience was also the reason we decided to help others just starting their muscle car search so they wouldn't make the same mistakes. Here's what happened. eBay Motors had a beautiful blue Dodge Dart Swinger for sale that had us drooling. Big block! 727 Torqueflite! 8 3/4 with 4:33. And the buy-it-now price was amazingly low. Now we know that an amazingly low price is the first warning sign. At the time it looked too good to pass up. The seller sent us a lovely story about how the car belonged to his deceased father and it brought his mother sad memories so it had to go. He said we would receive an email from eBay with payment information. The next email told us to send money to an individual in a different state from the location of the car via MoneyGram. This seemed odd but hey, it was our first time buying on the web. We scrambled to figure out which bank account to withdrawal the cash from in order to send the MoneyGram as soon as possible. In the meantime, I was showing a co-worker the car that I was buying on eBay and suddenly noticed a security warning that said to NEVER SEND money to pay for a purchase via MoneyGram. What? Quickly checking eBay Motors Help, I found lots of information about this exact scam. Luckily, it was a work day there were a couple of hours before we could get to the bank or we would have lost thousands of dollars. We learned two very important muscle car buying tips that day. Number one, if a car and its price look too good to be true, they most likely are! and number two, NEVER pay for a muscle car for sale on eBay via MoneyGram or Western Union. Where to Buy Muscle Cars VirtuallyMuscle car buyers come in two versions: guys who search for their dream car on the multitude of websites in cyberspace and guys who read local muscle car classifieds like Auto Trader or search the car corrals at regional car shows or auctions.Either way has pros and cons. Our recommendation would be to do muscle car shopping using both methods, but for this issue we'll focus on where to buy muscle cars online. Next month we'll tackle the many options for finding a muscle car at a real brick and mortar dealership or at a car show or other "real world" location. Even though we almost lost thousands of dollars in the eBay muscle car scam described above in the Quick Tips section, we still use eBay Motors as one of our main shopping locations. We eventually purchased our 1972 Dart from three states away on eBay Motors. Obviously, in our opinion the risks of buying a muscle car online don't outweigh the benefits. There is a huge, ever-changing selection of muscle cars for sale on eBay Motors. You can shop at any time of day or night, any day of the week. Depending on your individual situation, don't forget to make sure other family members are aware of and in agreement with the amount of time and money you'll be spending on your muscle car. Sounds like common sense but it's worth having the conversation anyway. Once you have a handle on which muscle car you really want for your specific plans and you have a set budget, you can merge those two factors to determine the exact muscle car for you. You'll be glad you took the time to understand precisely which muscle car to buy, especially when you are in a grown-up toy store like Country Classic Cars drooling over some awesome American muscle! There is a lot more information on the site to help you decide which muscle car to buy. It could be modern muscle or maybe you'd like a brand new factory-built '67 Camaro convertible? Is your budget under $10K? There are suggestions in this price range, too. Coming Soon to find-your-muscle-car.comNext month we'll be looking at the best places to find your muscle car in the non-virtual world, meaning where you can and should go in person. In May and the following months we'll be talking about how to determine the value of a muscle car, getting a muscle car registered, muscle car insurance and more.
