Muscle Car Shows - It's That Time Again!

Last weekend we had an unseasonably warm day. Our neighbor roared down the street on his shiny black Harley with a big smile on his face, even though he was probably colder than he expected. And our thoughts turned to muscle car shows and choosing which ones we will go to this year.

Large regional car shows are a perfect place to find muscle cars for sale. At the larger car shows, there can be hundreds of muscle cars for sale of every make and model, every year, every price range and all right there for you to see at one time. Sure beats reading classified ads online or in a magazine, doesn't it?

Don't discount smaller local car shows. They may not have as large a selection but if the classic American muscle car you are looking for is there, who cares how many other cars are in the car corral?

Here are four more great reasons why you should find out where the nearest muscle car show is if you're trying to find your dream car:

  • Most people selling a car at muscle car shows are car lovers. They took good care of the car and can give you lots of information about it. Even better, they don't want to take the car back home. They brought it out to the show to sell it so they are motivated to negotiate.

  • Cars that aren't advertised in muscle car magazines or online classifieds are available at muscle car shows. You could easily find a hidden treasure!

  • Be aware that muscle car dealers often come to the large shows and line up 6-7 cars to sell. The good news is you get to see some of their inventory in person. The not-so-good news is that the prices are usually higher than individual sellers and the quality or history of the muscle car could be unknown. Again, they brought the cars to the show to sell, so they definitely will negotiate.

  • Another benefit of meeting muscle car dealers at car shows is that you can get their contact information and stay in touch with them in hopes that they will eventually have your muscle car in their inventory at the price you want. Give them your name and contact info too and specific information about the car you want to buy. That's one more set of eyes looking for your dream car for you.

More info on muscle car shows and why they are the best place to buy muscle cars can be found at this page on the find-your-muscle-car website.

Bottom line - in addition to being just plain fun for a muscle car lover, muscle car shows are an excellent source to find your muscle car.

How to Find Muscle Car Shows

Hopefully this newsletter has convinced you that one of the best places to find a muscle car for sale is at a large muscle car show. If you don't live near the shows we reviewed in Our Favorites, here are few suggestions on how to find a muscle car show in your area.

The major car shows are usually advertised in muscle car magazines. Get a copy of Hemmings Muscle Machines or Hemmings Classic Car or Hemmings Motor News from your local drug store or book store. Flipping through the pages you'll see many shows advertised. There will also be an upcoming events section, usually near the back of the publication. For manufacturer specific muscle car shows, buy a copy of Super Chevy magazine or Mopar Muscle magazine or something similar.

Another option is to go to the Hemmings website and click on the Events search engine on the left of the home page. You can find everything from local car cruises to major car shows for every state, and can sort by date, type of show, state and more.

We've found good shows from the Hemmings website but not all shows are listed there. Go to your favorite search engine (such as Google or Yahoo) and type in your state name and the words "car show" or "car corral." The search results will give you another selection of car shows to consider. You can also include a specific manufacturer or model to further narrow the search.

By the way, it's useful to also include the current year in your search. For example

If you don't, your results will include information on car shows held in previous years.
